Xbox: Microsoft promises to launch “four or five exclusives” a year

Phil Spencer says his plan is to have a constant stream of titles where studies have total creative freedom to work.

Microsoft is very clear about what it wants to do with the Xbox brand in the coming years and, above all, in what way. Video games have become the main protagonists of their road map in the short and medium term, with an X019 where works such as Everwild were presented by Rare, Grounded from Obsidian and Tell Me Why in Dontnod. The idea is clear: have four or five exclusive games a year.

This was stated by Phil Spencer, leader of the Microsoft video game department, in a meeting with the French medium JeuxVideo: "Our goal is to be able to bring four or five great new games to the platform [Xbox] every year." To which he adds: “We do not have a rule imposed on the scale or size of the teams, the style of play or their gender. We give our teams a lot of creative freedom to do what they want to create, ”he continues.

Before the end of 2020 we will have news of some of his next games.

They already made the promise: more than one great game per quarter in 2020

It is not the first time we have heard Microsoft say something like that during the last weeks and months. On the one hand, in June they said they had in their plan the launch of an exclusive game every three months: "We would love to offer a high quality game on Xbox Game Pass every three months," said Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios. But that's not all: in October they repeated the argument of offering more than one great game per quarter starting next year; which would give at least four exclusive titles next calendar.

To our knowledge, these are the confirmed games with name and surname currently in development exclusively for the Xbox ecosystem: Tell Me Why, Grounded, Everwild, Minecraft Dungeons, Halo: Infinite, Wasteland 3, Psychonauts 2, Bleeding Edge, Flight Simulator, Gears Tactics , Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Battletoads, Age of Epires IV and more.

Regarding Project Scarlett, the new console that will be the successor to Xbox One, will be launched at Christmas 2020, with a new variant of the AMD Zen 2 and a GDDR6 memory processor that will increase its processing capabilities to offer games up to 8K resolution. To this we have to add that it will have 120 FPS capacities; And yes, it will also have SSD memory, like the future PlayStation 5.

At the beginning of November we were able to chat with Phil Spencer, leader of the Microsoft video game department, who told us about how they face the future of the brand in the Spanish market.
