Phil Spencer: Project Scarlett will put aside virtual reality because "nobody asks for it"

The head of the Xbox division shares his point of view regarding VR and says he has "problems" with technology.

Xbox One began its journey in the market with the peculiarity of relying on an external device to the console, Kinect. Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, already said that they would not stumble again with the same mistakes they made in the launch of their previous console, nor does it seem very much for the work of betting on virtual reality devices. At least that has revealed in an interview with Stevivor, where he said that Project Scarlett customers have not asked the company to focus on that technology.

"I have some problems with virtual reality," said the manager. “It isolates you, and I think games are something collective, a kind of collective experience. We are responding to what our customers demand … and nobody has asked about virtual reality. ” According to the Xbox leader, the vast majority of its customers know that if they want to enjoy a VR experience there are other places to look at.

In addition, Spencer has set an eye on the economic issue. "Nobody is selling millions and millions" with virtual reality hardware. "I think it may be achieved at some point, but no, it is not what we are focusing on."

Project xCloud will not have exclusive games

Also through an interview with Stevivor, Kareen Choudhry, corporate vice president of services, showed that it was possible for Microsoft to bet on exclusive games for its cloud system. However, those statements have been denied by a Microsoft representative, who said there are no plans to develop specific titles for the streaming service. They see it, more than anything, as a complementary service to consoles.

Project xCloud is currently in beta, while its competitor, Google Stadia, has already been released in some countries.
