Sony has finally said goodbye to the handheld business and something like a PSP or PS Vita will not exist anymore from the Japanese. This should also put an end to the speculation about a potential successor.
As Sony Interactive Entertainment's President and CEO Jim Ryan said in a recent PlayStation anniversary interview with GameInformer, you're done with the handheld business, even though it was an exciting time. But now and in the future you are following a different direction.
"The PlayStation Vita has been brilliant in many ways and the actual gaming experience has been great, but it's clearly a business we're not in anymore," Ryan said.
However, the end of the handheld business was also foreseeable, because with the PS Vita you could not reach the sales figures by far, as you once did with the PSP. Here, especially the competition at Nintendo is too strong, which leaves the market completely.
The production of the PS Vita has also been completely discontinued this year, which is why only smaller remnants are available in stores. However, new and smaller games continue to appear, albeit digitally.
