The hybrid console will debut in the Asian giant by Tencent. The agreement is official and all the details of his departure are already known.
Nintendo Switch will go on sale in China on December 10. Tencent Holdings, one of the largest companies of the Asian giant, has reached an agreement with Nintendo for the commercialization of its current hybrid console, which will come at a price in exchange for 2,099 RMB (about 270 euros) in a pack that will incorporate a version test of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
After years of negotiations, the firm led by Shuntaro Furukawa will be able to distribute its flagship product in China legally; although there is still approval by the Chinese government to give the green light to some video games on the sheet proposed by Nintendo, such as Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, who will be next to see the light in stores if there is finally consent.
Tencent Holdings as a partner: first confirmed games and infrastructure
The multinational Tencent will be responsible for the distribution of the product and the processing of other titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kirby Star Allies if there is approval from the regulatory bodies.
Other aspects to highlight come from the hand of the online infrastructure of the service. This console model will have national blocking and will use servers with access to the eShop, but with WeChat Play. Tencent will be responsible for the simplified Chinese location of the aforementioned video games. At the moment there is no mention of an eventual sale of the current only portable model of the company, Nintendo Switch Lite.
According to market analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners for Bloomberg: "The demand for Nintendo Switch, both hardware and software, has been very strong in China since before the official launch of the console." In addition, "10% of Nintendo Switch sales come from the Asian market, not counting Japan." Although they do not give concrete figures, analysts expect the company's annual Nintendo Switch sales estimates to rise considerably in the coming fiscal years if this release is successful.
To date, Nintendo Switch has sold 41 million units worldwide and more than 246 million games (Q3 / FY2019-20).
