Sony does not rule out that PS5 has a hardware revision like PS4 Pro

As in the case of PlayStation 4, Sony already thinks that PlayStation 5 can have a hardware revision as it was PlayStation 4 Pro.

During this generation we have seen an unprecedented event on desktop consoles, such as an internal hardware review to improve the performance of these. In this way, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X came to offer an improved version of both consoles, and this trend is something that could be repeated in the next generation with PlayStation 5 and the now known as Xbox Scarlett. Sony has already been quite in favor of this.

The speed at which technology advances has made these revisions can become commonplace, according to Sony Vice President of Interactive Entertainment, Masayasu Ito. "In the past, the life cycle of a console was between 7 and 10 years, but with the speed of the evolution of technology today, it is more than 6 to 7 years," Ito said in an interview. "So our thinking about a platform like PlayStation 5 is a life cycle of 6 or 7 years, but considering that, we should be able to change the hardware and try to incorporate improvements in technology. That's the idea, and the proof of this is the launch of PS4 Pro during the life cycle of PlayStation 4 "

It is not the first time that Sony talk about this type of hardware development policy, as Japanese journalist Zenji Nishikawa has already stated emphatically that the company would have already decided to launch a PlayStation 5 review during its life cycle.

PlayStation 5, at the end of next year

While Microsoft has not yet made public the final name of its next console – for the moment Xbox Scarlett -, Sony has already made it clear that in the face of the next generation, life will not be very complicated in terms of nomenclature: it will be plain and simple PlayStation 5. It was confirmed not long ago that it will arrive, like the Microsoft console, at the end of 2020, both punctually decay to the Christmas campaign.
