The new BioShock has been in development for more than two years

Its code name is BioShock Parkside, it has been in mind of 2K Games since 2015 and its current studio, Cloud Chamber, was secretly born in 2017.

It is one of the great news of the week. 2K Games has confirmed that it is already working on a new BioShock and has even named the studio that will take over from Irrational Games and Ken Levine. This is Cloud Chamber, a newly founded developer who is based in California and has Kelley Gilmore at the head of it. Wait a minute, did we say just founded? Maybe not. 2K may not have told us all about the next installment of the saga, because according to Kotaku it has been in development for several years and its staff has nothing new (always according to said portal).

The editor of the magazine, Jason Schreier, assures among its pages that the game has been in development since 2015 (two years after the launch of Bioshock Infinite in 2013), that its code name is Parkside and that at first it would be in from Certain Affinity, an Austin (Texas, United States) studio that has collaborated on shooters like Halo or Call of Duty. Formed by a former Bungie employee, Max Hoberman, the Certain Affinity team was working on the fourth installment of the franchise until 2016, when the results did not convince 2K Games and it decided to reset the project and put its own studio to front of it.

BioShock Parkside, your code name

The thing does not end there. Kotaku says that, back in 2017, 2K Games itself resumed development, hiring and forming a small team in California with Mafia III staff. A team to work in the pre-production of this “BioShock Parkside”. The study has remained unnamed since then, although its existence was leaked in 2018, and in these two years it has not stopped growing until this week it finally became official and was sold to us as a newly founded and installed new company.

A whole history of comings and goings that only confirms that the new BioShock has been in the mind of 2K Games for more than four years and more than two in at least pre-production. Perhaps it is more advanced than we think. In any case, the BioShock saga is known for its convulsive developments, with cases of crunch, reboots and study closures (2K Marin). If it had begun without a bit of mystery and without the occasional contradiction, it would not be BioShock.
