Death Stranding: Hideo Kojima defines himself as an indie developer in a new video

The Japanese creative shares his vision and remembers how he set up his studio, as well as the development of his new video game.

Leaving the company where you have worked for almost a lifetime has its risks. Hideo Kojima ceased to be part of Konami at the end of 2015. A few months later, he announced the constitution of Kojima Productions, as well as an agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment. This process, which was quickly forged, became the development of Death Stranding, his most recent work. Through a video on the official PlayStation channel, the Japanese creative has immersed himself in the history of the studio, while emphasizing his status as an independent developer.

In fact, the Japanese director has ensured that it is part of the indie developers. "I am part of the indies, since I became independent three years and new months ago." Despite this, he acknowledges that from the beginning he tried to design a triple A video game with the objective of meeting the expectations of all his followers. "Thanks to my connections with different people I received help from many people," so I was able to "sell the game."

Kojima points out that he was not starting in a new industry. “I was restarting what I started 30 years ago as an indie developer, but it wasn't as difficult as I expected, since in the end I just had to start designing a videogame from scratch again. Surprisingly, it worked well. Now, if I had to set up a restaurant … it would definitely be hard. I have been able to work on what I do best, ”he continues.

A world that needs to reconnect

The creator of Metal Gear Solid has mentioned the connections over and over again, precisely the core on which his new proposal is based. Death Stranding is about a society that has lost its way, that needs to reconnect to re-weave a good network that allows society to find itself again. Sam Porter Bridges, protagonist of the adventure, is the character who is responsible for creating the links between people.

Death Stranding is available on PS4 as console exclusive. The game will be released next summer of 2020 on PC.
