Planetside Arena closes its servers four months after its launch

The game that wanted to offer battles of 1,000 players per game will close its doors in January, after admitting that the idea is impossible to maintain.

Although PlanetSide Arena only came out in Early Access on September 19, it seems that its journey will not go much further. The game's developer, Daybreak Games, has confirmed that her ambitious sci-fi aesthetic shooter (known above all for wanting to offer battles of 1,000 players per game) will close its servers forever on January 10, 2020. “It is impossible to keep the playable experience we had in mind, ”acknowledged Andy Site, executive producer of the title.

With a view to closing, the studio has already removed all DLCs from the game from Steam and is "actively working" with Valve to ensure that anyone who has purchased downloadable content within the title "automatically receives a refund in their wallets during these months" of Steam. " Daybreak Games has issued a brief statement through the forums of the store in which it says that "after several months in Early Access, it has become clear that with the number of players we have it is impossible to keep the idea we had in mind" .

All efforts to Planetside 3?

Interestingly, in this Early Access version, which came after a huge amount of delays, the Daybreak proposal was still far from reaching 1000 player games and only allowed several battle royale modes of 300 people. In spite of everything, the study thanks its users for the loyalty and feedback of these months and ensures that “as painful as it may be to close a chapter like this so fast”, they remain “deeply committed to the franchise” and will look for new ways to expand the universe of Planetside in the future.

We have until January 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. (Spanish local time) to say goodbye to PlanetSide Arena, whether we play on PC or on PS4. We will have to keep waiting for a new installment of the franchise at the height of its name. Without counting this failed spin-off, the previous chapter of the saga, its second installment, Planetside 2, will turn nine in a few months.
