Google buys Thyphoon Studios to develop for Stadia

Google has acquired Typhoon Studios (Journey to the Savage Planet) development studio to develop games exclusively for Google Stadia.

Google has acquired the Typhoon Studios studio so that from now on they can develop titles focused on their platform, Google Stadia. We remind you that this is a study founded in 2017 by veterans of Ubisoft, EA and WB Games Montreal. The launch of its first game, Journey to the Savage Planet, will be next on January 28 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, so Google Stadia could be added to that list of platforms where it will be available. A few days ago we were able to play it and talk to one of the people in charge of Thyphoon in order to bring you some first and detailed impressions.

Google and Stadia are growing more and more

Typhoon will join the Stadia Games & Entertainment division to reinforce the Stadia line with original games. Jade Raymond, who is in charge of such a division, explained to Gamesindustry.biz the decision to place Typhoon Studios under Google's umbrella.

"They have really assembled an AAA team, and the goal of acquiring the team is that it will really give us an advantage to make the games that define the system everyone expects," says Raymond. "This is a superior team of AAA industry veterans who already have an excellent working relationship and were able to submit something quickly, and have many great ideas for the platform."

If we focus on the current performance of Google Stadia, we can say that there is a mix of opinions between specialized media and users who have already been able to test the system. On the one hand, the technology presented by the Google platform is simple but effective: with the press of a button we can start playing various games from almost any device in our home. The unknowns remain in other sections such as the games catalog, for the moment not too attractive, or the failures that technology currently presents and that Google has promised that they will fix.
