Isack Hadjar’s Monaco Grand Prix practice crash ended the opening session early, as the Red Bull RB22 slammed into the Swimming Pool chicane barrier with under 24 minutes remaining.
Details of the incident
While navigating the right‑hand exit of the Swimming Pool, Hadjar’s car over‑steered, clipped the wall and slid into the concrete, tearing the nose of the chassis. The driver escaped unassisted, walked back to the team garage, and radioed, “I don’t understand why it snapped off like that. I’m sorry.”
Top times at the moment of the red flag
When officials waved the red flag, Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli led the sector charts, followed by home favorite Charles Leclerc and Antonelli’s teammate George Russell. Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri completed the top five, while Hadjar had been sitting eighth fastest before the stoppage.
Red Bull’s repair window
The team now faces a limited window to rebuild the damaged RB22 before the second practice session, scheduled for 17:00 local time (16:00 UK). Engineers must replace the front assembly and ensure the car is competitive for the remaining weekend events.
