Nvidia: “A Geforce RTX 2080 is more powerful than PS5 and Xbox Series X”

Nvidia: “A Geforce RTX 2080 is more powerful than PS5 and Xbox Series X”

The PC Gaming claims and takes graphic muscle at the last Nvidia conference, in which the company claims to be ahead of PS5 and Xbox.

During the GTC 2020 (GPU Technology Conference), organized these days by Nvidia Corporation in China, the company's executive director, Jensen Huang, has remembered the competition and wanted to launch a dart at the upcoming Sony and Microsoft consoles. Given the rumors that placed both machines around 12 teraflops of power and near the highest range of Nvida, Huang has wanted to make a difference and has ensured that the GeForce RTX 2080 is more powerful than any new generation console and both she as the RTX 2080Ti will be more powerful than PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Some less curious statements, and more if we consider that both platforms will come out at the end of 2020, when the graphic quoted by Huang takes more than two and a half years for sale. Of course, we do not believe that any of them will have the price of the RTX 2080, which today can be found for 849 euros on the website of Nvidia itself.

This is another claim of the Gaming PC by Nvidia, which without knowing the specific specifications of the new consoles, is difficult to check and put into context. For now, from Xbox Series X we only know very general features, such as having a custom CPU and based on AMD's Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture (direct competition from Nvidia itself). The next Microsoft platform promises to have a GPU eight times more powerful than that of Xbox One and twice above that of Xbox One X, and she will add an NVME SSD hard drive with which she wants to significantly cut the times of load. A cocktail that seeks to offer as a result support for resolutions of 8K, rates of 120 images per second, ray tracing and 120 Hz.

What do we know about PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Even less is what we know about PlayStation 5, still not presented in society. The only thing we can hold on to is the first thing Mark Cerny, the console architect, commented on her. As he told us, he will have an AMD Navi GPU and a custom Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, accompanied by a graphic variant of the Navi family. All seasoned by a series of features that will allow "acceleration of ray tracing in the GPU" and a top-of-the-range SSD that, in its first tests, has reduced the loading times of games like Marve's Spider-Man from 15 to 0, 8 seconds, craving one of the crucial changes of the next generation.

Of course 2020 seems an exciting year for the videogames sector, which will welcome a new generation and a new (and substantial?) Graphic leap. For regulars to the PC, do not miss the opportunity to give them a self-gift from Reyes or Santa Claus, something very easy if you follow our guide to buy the best hardware at Christmas. You may not have behaved so well as to deserve the RTX 2080, but surely you will find something that fits your pockets.
