Death Stranding, chosen Best Game of the Year by Japanese developers

More than 132 creatives from companies such as Square Enix, Platinum Games or CyberConnect 2 have chosen the work of Hideo Kojima as the best of 2019.

The latest issue of Famitsu has called 132 Japanese developers to vote to determine the best games of the year. An event that has become a tradition and that in 2018 recognized Marvel's Spider-Man as the favorite of the Japanese industry. On this occasion, the title that has won the award of such a select jury has been Death Stranding, considered GOTY 2019 by the prestigious directors of studios such as Square Enix, Platinum Games, Arc System Works, CyberConnect 2, Cygames or Level-5 . An award that will be interesting to rename in the coming days, as it comes to light who has voted to whom.

The victory of Hideo Kojima (who left a clue on his next project on Christmas) has not been easy and has had Dragon Quest Walk on his heels. The latter, still unpublished outside of Japan, is a mobile game in the manner of Pokémon GO based on the popular saga of Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama. You can imagine the fever for it considering the popularity of the franchise, which has cast another game (Dragon Quest Builders 2) in the top 10. The podium closes Sekiro: Shadow Dies Twice, who has not been able to repeat the result of The Game Awards 2019, where it was he who proclaimed himself GOTY 2019.

Of course the list is the most striking, as works such as Resident Evil 2 Remake (best game of the year for the writing of FreeGameTips) have finished in 16th place, below experiments such as Ring Fit Adventure. Equally shocking is the 25th place of Splatoon 2 based only on its updates, the pleasant surprise of the Spanish video game GRIS to close the ranking and positions of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (11), Kingdom Hearts III (17) and Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers (26), which once again demonstrate the change of tastes of the Japanese public from time to time.
