Honda locks David Alonso 2027 deal; team destiny still uncertain.

Honda signs David Alonso for 2027 without confirming which team he will join

Honda Secures 20‑Year‑Old David Alonso for 2027

Honda has confirmed that 20‑year‑old Colombian David Alonso will join the Japanese manufacturer’s MotoGP programme from 2027 onward.

Alonso finished runner‑up in his rookie Moto3 season and claimed the 2022 title before moving to Moto2 with the Aspar team last year. In 2026 he has taken the victory at Misano, sits fourth in the standings and has been battling a shoulder injury that has plagued him throughout the first half of the season.

The contract is described as “multi‑year” by Honda Racing Corporation, yet the manufacturer has deliberately withheld details on which works or satellite outfit the rider will race for or the exact duration of the deal. Sources suggest it will outlast the typical two‑year term.

Alonso’s career manager, former Grand Prix racer Nico Terol, teamed with Wasserman agent Bob Moore to secure the move, aiming to provide the rider with the best pathway to the premier class.

Industry observers note that a place in the factory team alongside 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo would offer an ideal environment but also heightened pressure, whereas racing for LCR Honda could afford a steadier learning curve in MotoGP.

With Quartararo’s transfer to Honda expected soon, the 2027 roster will eventually feature two leading names from the Colombian‑born rider’s home nation, creating a widely discussed lineup head‑to‑head in the works squad.
