Tomb Raider Catalyst will now launch in 2028, pushing its debut to one year after the upcoming Atlantis title.
Release Schedule Shift
During a video interview with The Game Business, Jeffrey Gattis, head of Amazon Game Business, confirmed the new launch date. The game, originally slated for 2027, will now be available next year.
“We have announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Atlantis releases February 12th next year, and Catalyst follows in 2028,” Gattis told viewers. His statement makes the delay official.
Amazon’s Game‑Business Strategy
Gattis emphasized Amazon’s commitment to a staggered release timetable, citing the 2026 and 2027 windows previously announced for other big‑ticket projects. By spacing the titles, Amazon seeks to avoid direct competition with studios such as Rockstar during the GTA 6 launch window.
The 2027 delay for Legacy of Atlantis was already a reset from an initial 2026 plan. The postponement was justified due to a congested 2026 schedule packed with high‑profile releases.
Impact on Franchise Timeline
With Shadow of the Tomb Raider closing the series in 2018, Catalyst marks the first mainline entry in more than a decade. Fans have also welcomed the 2024 remastered editions of the Trilogy, keeping the franchise alive while awaiting the next chapter.
Catalyst’s storylines will unfold in India, an origin coinciding with the delay that disappointed many, as indicated by the brief tone of the footage.
Future Outlook
While Legacy of Atlantis heads toward its 2027 release, it could still face another postponement. The shifting release calendar has already altered several titles—Onimusha Way of the Sword, for instance, was pre‑poned instead of pushed to 2027.
Ultimately, the rescheduling positions Catalyst in a fresh era for the franchise, and fans can anticipate a new adventure in 2028 that follows two years after the Atlantis reboot.
