Luminous Productions is working on an undisclosed high-budget title, but development will still be delayed.

Final Fantasy XV went on sale after a recomposition process that lasted three years. The old Final Fantasy Versus XIII moved to the current consoles, but only some aspects of the previous project were rescued. Once marketed, Square Enix launched Luminous Productions, in order to design new video games. However, the next title of the study, of which nothing is known, is not close to completing its development.

Saya Nakahara and Yuuki Matsuzawa, project manager and chief conceptual artist, respectively, have chatted at Famitsu about what they have in hand. "There is not much we can tell right now," acknowledges Matsuzawa. “We decided on some elements of the game, but others are still under consideration. People like me, who are at the top of the development process, are very busy. It is a new intellectual property, so much of what there is is different compared to what we have done so far. That means it is a difficult project and it takes a lot of time. ”

Hajime Tabata left the studio

The game, which has a “global perspective,” began with Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV. However, the developer decided to step back and leave Luminous Productions and Square Enix. Tabata was in charge of launching the entire study, but he decided to become independent and found a new study, with which he is developing the first title based on the Paralympic Games.

Final Fantasy XV had an ambitious expansion plan that was to be developed throughout its second season. Even so, Square Enix made the determination to stop all those projects to allocate resources to new video games. Thus, only the Ardyn Episode became commercialized. The video game went on sale at the end of 2016 and did feature several additional episodes, starring Noctis' friends.
