Vincent Vos has publicly condemned the GT World Challenge Europe’s Balance of Performance system after #32 BMW M4 GT3’s double victory at Misano did not quell his frustrations.
Misano Efforts Fail to Shift View
Despite the race‑winning performance of Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde, Vos: “We were disappointed with the situation.” He stresses that the outcome at Misano does not alter his assessment of the BoP.
He recalls the season’s start: “We weren’t in a position to challenge for victory at Bathurst, then again at Paul Ricard, and the same thing happened at Brands Hatch, Monza and Spa.”
Vos states that the BoP, “creating the risk of major swings in performance from one race to another,” is at the core of the issue.
Spoiled by Spa 24 Hours
The Spa 24 Hours set off a new grievance. “It’s a general problem; it’s not just about what happened at Spa,” Vos notes, citing the way two or three people “ruining everything” with the BoP.
He details inadequate testing: “Before Spa, we carried out two days of testing in May… nothing was done to check that the situation was actually fair.”
Van der Linde and Weerts benefited from success ballast at other events, leaving Vos questioning the fairness of allocation.
Stalled Communication with SRO
After the Spa event, Vos sought a meeting to clarify the BoP, yet “we haven’t received a reply.” He laments the lack of open dialogue from SRO Motorsport Group.
He remarks, “When there’s a problematic situation, you have to sort it out. Not the person who has to put up with it.”
The silence has intensified his skepticism about the platform’s responsiveness.
Broader Alliance of Discontent
Vos claims other manufacturers feel the same way. “I don’t care who they are; I simply said that we’re not the only ones who aren’t happy.”
Voicing frustration, he references Valentino Rossi’s pole position at Misano, which “immediately sparked the idea of a consolation prize.”
He stresses that teams like Aston Martin, Porsche, and BMW have faced ballast challenges across events, further muddying BoP consistency.
Implications for Suzuka and Beyond
Vos maintains that “the final decision about Suzuka remains uncertain,” although “BMW isn’t happy with the situation.”
He denies seeking advantage: “I’m not looking for gifts or extra weight. I merely want fair competition.”
His remarks highlight a growing push for a more professional technical approach within SRO to balance the evolving complexity of third‑era GT3 cars.
