Announced in 1994, for 25 years they have been able to see captures of this Akira game in various international videogame publications.

For 25 years we have been glimpsing details of the video game for Mega Drive and SNES based on the very popular anime film Akira, but finally we can now enjoy gameplay of this canceled game. Announced in 1994 and developed by the Black Pearl Software studio for a year, it was scheduled to be launched in 1995, something that as we could see, never happened.

Versions for various platforms

This version for 16-bit consoles was not the only one that was being developed in Black Pearl, since they also worked on versions for Game Boy, Game Gear, and Mega CD, the peripheral for Mega Drive. Indeed, none of these versions ever came to light, apparently, due to problems with the THQ distributor.

Now, from the Hidden Palace portal, they have been able to discover this prototype that, although not fully playable, some specific phases can be selected. As we can see in the gameplay, this game would contain elements of several successful genres in the 90s, with phases on the back of a motorcycle that remind of the classic Road Rush, as well as other action and two-dimensional platforms that can take us back to the great Flashback, even a phase that recreated the escape from the Tetsuo hospital under a first person perspective.

Curiously, whether by chance or not, it is in this year 2019 that it is about to end when the Akira movie is released, released in 1988. Soon a real action remake will be released directed by Taika Waititi, director in turn of Thor Ragnarok , for example, and in which he has already ensured that they will perform oriental actors.
