Penalty Imposed on MBM Motorsports
NASCAR assigned a $5,000 fine and 25-point reductions to both driver and owner standings for MBM Motorsports after a shifter boot infraction surfaced during the IRP Craftsman Truck Series pre‑qualifying inspection.
The No. 69 entry, owned by Carl Long and featuring a first‑time Ram chassis, did not qualify for the Indianapolis event. Yet the team’s gear change assembly failed to meet current safety standards.
Shifter Boot Violation Details
Inspection revealed that the boot used on the shifter was older than the two‑year threshold set in Sections 14.2.3.6 A & B of the NASCAR Rule Book. The component also lacked the required safety certification label mandated by the sanctioning body.
Effect on Points and DNQs
With no race starts yet this season, Jonathan Shafer now sits at –25 driver points and the team trails at –14 owner points. The team’s three DNQs this year, all with MBM, intensify the consequences of the ruling.
