Because there are video games for which time has not passed in vain; titles that not only require a graphic face wash to be enjoyed as before in today's times.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is surely one of the main names that come to mind when we talk about an outstanding remake; but we have others like Metroid: Samus Returns, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, Shadow of the Colossus or Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee, among many others. Tastes apart, are reinterpretations of themselves with more or less changes, but with a common denominator: the will to remain as before, but feeling like current video games.

Today we review the five big names in the form of a remake that await us in what is already, officially, the last year of the present generation of consoles, before we stop referring in the future when we talk about PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

For allusions, we will start with Resident Evil 3 Remake. Nemesis is back and will do so soon. It will be April 3 when we rediscover those strange disappearances in Raccoon City. The police squad S.T.A.R.S. will return to be seen on our televisions with the same engine as the renewed second installment, the RE Engine, which will also inherit some of the most played playable news. We know that it will be more action-oriented, as Capcom has confirmed, and that there will be no delays: the game is ready and convinced that the state of form of Osaka's company is no accident. In fact, beyond what we all remember about PlayStation's work, the original story will be expanded; with the asymmetric multiplayer mode of Project Resistance as icing on the cake.

There are those who cross out the days in the calendar to what aims to be an event within the industry. The original PlayStation game, that Final Fantasy VII of 1997, finished consolidating the JRPG as a success in the West and passed to the annals of history for its merits and virtues; some that would serve as inspiration for what gender would be next. Far is that E3 2015 where dreams and unexpected announcements could not be counted on the fingers of one hand. Little can we say at this point in the remake, which will be divided into several parts and will collect in this first the events of Midgar. Graphic renewal, new gameplay, expansion of the story so that those 5-6 hours of this stage of the original feel like a complete RPG … On March 3 ends the wait on PlayStation 4.

The E3 2018 surprised at the Microsoft conference all Battletoads lovers. The return of Rash, Pimple and Zitz did outline more of a smile among Rare's intellectual property enthusiasts, this time developed by DLaLa Studios. In the E3 of 2019 we saw more, enough for many to be convinced that this material was a declaration of intent. We can play this classic beat ‘em up in cooperative mode for up to three players with a very colorful artistic style, which inherits aspects of the classic television animated series; added to the electric guitar chords prepared for the occasion. In short, Battletoads in 2020, only on Xbox, with the same desire to make us sweat with each level. A challenge that does not heal.

Revolutionary in its day, the System Shock reboot has something to tell us in 2020. Nightdive Studios is taking over a title that is back 25 years later. There is much to know about the project, a science fiction adventure that has required collective funding through Kickstarter since 2016. The success was immediate: more than $ 900,000 two weeks before the target date. The delays have been part of the development, not easy for study, but inevitable in wanting to ensure that what we find in it lives up to what has been called on a few occasions as a masterpiece of the video game.

XIII Remake

There are times when the remakes also serve as a claim for titles that, due to the circumstance, they did not have the media power or the sales they deserved for their quality. Maybe XIII is one of them. Before the end of the generation, users of PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch can taste this renewal from above under the hands of PlayMagic and Microids, the international publisher. The cel-shaded style is maintained, although the essence of those 128-bit years will remain. The delay to 2020 was a warning that there are things that require more time than estimated, that this work was not just an adaptation to high definition. Ambition, in short, for a title that the community will make sure to place better than where it was there by 2003.
