PS5: Analysts are expecting an edge over the Xbox this year

With the approaching launch of the PS5 and the new Xbox, industry analysts are increasingly feeling called back to deliver their forecasts. The PS5 can be seen in the front.

For example, the IHS Markit Analyst Piers-Harding Rolls recently commented on the next generation, who sees some new factors that will determine the sales figures. For 2020, he initially expects the PS5 to outperform the new Xbox. Overall, however, an even stronger launch is expected.

"I expect PS5 to outperform Xbox Series X in 2020, but both platforms will start selling more consoles than PS4 and Xbox One in 2013," said Harding-Rolls.

In his view, the final success of the new consoles will also be determined by new factors, including backward compatibility and brand loyalty. This time, fewer players will probably switch sides.

"A new factor for this coming generation is the impact of backward compatibility on brand loyalty and audience switching. I think we will see less brand changes in the result. ”

If this should actually happen in the end, Sony would have already won over the next generation, since significantly more PlayStation than Xbox consoles could be sold.

Finally, Piers-Harding Rolls made his assessment of the price of the PS5 and new Xbox, which he sees this time at over 399 US $ / EUR. This also coincides with previous statements from Sony, which already indicated that the PS5 will probably be a little more expensive than the PS4 at launch.

"I expect PS5 and Xbox Series X prices to be similar, and I think they are more likely to be above the PS4 introductory price of $ 399."

The PS5 will be available towards the end of 2020 and the premiere is expected in the coming weeks.
