Pol Espargaro to Replace Maverick Vinales at the Austrian Grand Prix
Tech3 today confirmed that Pol Espargaró will step in for the injured Maverick Viñales at the Austrian GP in Spielberg, taking the seat at the Red Bull Ring.
As KTM’s official test and reserve rider, Espargaró will make his fourth consecutive appearance for the team this season, defending the brand’s colours before a home crowd that will cheer the orange‑tide legacy of Red Bull.
Dual Role: Racing and 2027 Development
In addition to his current racing duties, Espargaró is closely working with Dani Pedrosa on the 850 cc programme for 2027, while also continuing his testing schedule at Mugello.
He has already competed in Silverstone, Aragon, Misano and now Spielberg, scoring points in two of the three races entered.
Team Outlook and Maverick’s Recovery
Vinales’ comeback has been delayed; he has participated in only eight grands prix this year, earning points at four events. Tech3 remains optimistic that he will return for the championship’s opening Japanese round.
Team manager Nicolas Goyon commended Espargaró’s increasing comfort and competitiveness, highlighting the significance of his presence for the Austrian meeting and expressing confidence in his experience and professionalism.
Supporting Maverick’s recovery remains Tech3’s priority, with Goyon urging patience while the team looks forward to a strong finish in Japan.
