Mir Withdraws from Austrian GP After Misano Health Issues
Honda announced that 2020 MotoGP champion Joan Mir will skip the Austrian Grand Prix, citing medical concerns that emerged after his Misano race.
Mir declared intense headaches and a severe lack of energy after finishing 20th in the sprint. He retired on lap 5 of the main event for the same reason and subsequently travelled to Barcelona for further tests.
Blood work performed by Honda’s medical crew revealed altered parameters that warrant comprehensive follow‑up examinations.
Medical Verdict and Retirement Decision
Honda confirmed that Mir’s scans and physiological data do not support a safe return to competition immediately. The rider’s team has therefore advised a full recovery period, ruling out participation at Red Bull Ring.
With no definitive diagnosis yet, Mir will be absent from the next three races, allowing focus on thorough investigations.
Nakagami Takes The RC213V For Austria
Honda’s test and development rider, Takaaki Nakagami, will inherit Mir’s RC213V for the Austrian weekend. After a recent Mugello prototype test, Nakagami will receive a complete race weekend to aid Honda’s developmental work.
He is also slated for a wildcard appearance at Motegi, which is a key venue for Honda’s strategy in Japan.
Mir’s planned return remains at the Japanese Grand Prix, the first circuit after Austria.
