Max Verstappen is sliding onto the Silverstone go‑kart circuit for the “Max vs 100” challenge, a 101‑kart showdown featuring the Dutch F1 star against 100 amateur drivers from every walk of life.
Race format and tactics
Verstappen will launch from the back of the grid, with 30 laps to out‑place his 100 competitors in a maximum 55‑to‑75‑minute sprint. The qualifying session, held from 2:20 pm to 3:50 pm local time, splits the field into five segments of 20 racers each, and the resulting grid order determines the starting positions. A purpose‑built kart track at Silverstone house all 101 karts, identical in construction and weighing 85 kg.
Every time an amateur is overtaken, that driver is eliminated, allowing the contest to finish early if Verstappen surpasses all rivals before lap 30. In the first half of the race attackers may deploy a “fast lap” – a shortcut that temporarily boosts momentum – offering occasional speed gains. In the final 15 laps only Verstappen is permitted to employ a fast lap, giving him a strategic edge while the rest must rely on pure driving. Verstappen also enjoys direct radio communication with opponents, a communication advantage no other kart possesses.
Broadcast and commentary
The event will be streamed live by ESPN on Disney+, with the race commencing at 6 p.m. local time and a pre‑event kickoff at 5 p.m. The package will feature game‑inspired graphics and cinematic drone coverage. Comedian Mo Gilligan will host the broadcast, their presence expected to add a lively, Mario‑Kart‑esque feel to the presentation.
Notable participants
Behind Verstappen’s start‑line ambition are celebrities, athletes and content creators. The entry list includes British creators such as Zac Alsop and Jack McDermott (known online as Pieface), 2019 Love Island winner Amber Gill, ultramarathoner Arda Saatci, and various other public figures. The mix underscores Red Bull’s intent to enliven the “Max vs 100” spectacle, positioning it as a cross‑platform entertainment event rather than a purely sporting contest.
