Fortescue Zero will assume the Team Penske operation for Formula E’s next Gen 4 season, bringing two Jaguar‑powered cars to the grid when the championship launches in December.
Fortescue Zero’s takeover of Penske
The Australian firm’s acquisition of the Penske effort ends a 12‑year association that began with the inaugural 2014 season. Penske had raced under several names, most recently DS Penske in partnership with the DS brand, until that alliance concluded this spring.
Jaguar’s expanded presence on the track
With the new arrangement, Jaguar will field a total of six cars across its own factory team, Envision, and the incoming Fortescue Zero outfit. The move cements Jaguar’s role as the sole supplier of powertrains and technology for the Gen 4 era.
Strategic imperatives and future performance
Gus Pichot, Fortescue Growth and Energy CEO, underscored the company’s commitment to high‑performance electric racing. “Fortescue Zero has spent a decade developing pioneering technologies that already power champion vehicles,” he said. “Now we will bring that expertise to the track, racing, winning, and shaping the future of electric mobility.”
Jaguar boss Ian James added: “Integrating Fortescue Zero as a new customer team strengthens our grid presence and fuels a shared passion for innovation.” James highlighted the Gen 4 platform as “an ideal environment to push Jaguar’s electric vehicle tech to new limits.”
Driver placements remain unconfirmed. Maximilian Gunther departed the DS Penske setup for Envision, while the future of former teammate Taylor Barnard is still pending. Fortescue hasn’t yet named its two new drivers.
