PS5 Pro shelves are empty worldwide as GTA 6 hype mounts
The limited‑edition Sony PS5 Pro, priced at $899.99, remains out of stock across global markets as the approaching release of Rockstar’s GTA 6 fuels an unprecedented surge in demand.
Outpaced by demand, Sony warns of extended shortages
An internal memo revealed by German outlet PlayFront indicates that Sony notified distribution partners that the PS5 Pro shortfall could persist “through early 2027 at the earliest.” This claim follows the company’s statement that worldwide availability is curtailed by “temporary market supply constraints and high demand.”
Despite the announcement, some consumers have still managed to acquire the console; however, prices have been inflated as resale markets adjust to the scarcity, with recent reports of second‑hand units selling for upwards of $1,300.
GTA 6 will run at 30fps on every console
Rockstar has confirmed that the blockbuster will launch at 30 frames per second on all platforms, meaning the PS5 Pro will not deliver a 60‑fps experience as some enthusiasts hoped.
While the game may still feature PS5 Pro‑specific enhancements, the performance improvements are likely to be modest. In any case, the console’s high price, coupled with the persistent supply shortfall, may deter many players from purchasing the device solely for GTA 6.
Meanwhile, scalpers have also started selling the game’s PS5 DualSense controller packs at estimated double the retail price, contributing to a secondary shortage in the peripheral market.
If the popularity of GTA 6 continues to drive the market, buyers of the PS5 Pro will need to assess whether the scarcity and price premium align with their expectations for the upcoming launch.
