Pedro Acosta claims his first MotoGP win at Spielberg, cementing his status as KTM’s benchmark for the season.
Dominant 2026 Campaign for Acosta
Acosta began the 2026 calendar with a sprint victory in Thailand, followed by a second‑place in the grand prix there. In Austin he secured third overall, while Barcelona saw another podium as he finished second in the sprint. Hungary returned both a sprint and grand prix second place. At the Aragon and Misano grands prix, he added a second and a third to his record.
His teammate Brad Binder achieved a single notable result: a fourth‑place sprint at Jerez and a sixth at Spielberg. Italian rider Enea Bastianini took a third in the Austin sprint, while the Tech3 squad collected two sixth-place finishes in the grand prix round.
Technical Director Breaks Down Acosta’s Style
Sebastian Risse of KTM explains that Acosta’s razor‑sharp braking and late entry allow him to ‘lock the rear wheel on the line’ without losing traction. Though his early turn‑in often diverges from the conventional racing line, he shapes the machine to attack corners distinctly, catching rivals off‑guard.
“The recent season has seen his lines less extreme and more controlled,” Risse adds, citing data that shows marked improvement since Acosta’s 2024 debut. The rider agrees, noting he rides more smoothly now, though occasional outbursts still surface. His calmer approach is credited with fresh gains on the track.
Binder’s Pivot and KTM’s Future Line‑up
Binder’s last top finish came back in the 2024 Qatar opener. Risse points out that the championship’s evolution in tyres, riding styles, and machinery demands new tactics. Binder must find fresh strengths because his current “Brad attack” is no longer optimally productive.
KTM has decided not to extend Binder’s contract, and he will head to the Superbike World Championship with BMW in 2027. Acosta will transition to Ducati in 2027, leaving KTM with Alex Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio poised to take on the next season.
