Bubba Wallace & Alex Bowman Walk Away Uninjured After Brutal Crash in Charlotte NASCAR Cup

Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman uninjured after vicious crash in Charlotte NASCAR Cup race

Alex Bowman’s No. 48 ripped into Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 in Stage 1 of the Charlotte Cup, triggering a chain‑reaction crash that doomed all three cars.

Wreck Dynamics and Immediate Fallout

With three laps remaining in the opening stage, Bowman defended fifth against Wallace. While turning, Bowman’s car slid sideways; an over‑correction sent the 48 up the track, striking Wallace’s right‑rear. Both vehicles slammed against the outer wall, then spun inside and clipped the inner barrier.

William Byron, racing in the 24, collided with Bowman’s 48 after the initial impact. The three cars suffered severe damage and were forced to retire from the race. Tyler Reddick’s 45 slid sideways but narrowly missed the melee.

Driver Reactions and On‑Site Response

Wallace described the incident as “no warning.” He noted that the 48 “just got loose” and that both contacts had removed his brakes. “I’m still fine, nine fingers and nine toes,” he said, indicating no serious injury.

Bowman admitted the car slipped in the corner exit, causing “that I just didn’t hang on to it well enough.” He reflected that the loss of control was a driver error, not a mechanical failure.

Medical staff attended Wallace after the crash and a stretcher was prepared. However, he walked out of the wrecking zone on his own without required treatment, then was checked and released from the in‑field care center later.

Final Standings and Chase Implications

The crash marks Wallace’s first DNF of the Chase, finishing 37th. Bowman records a 38th place, and Byron ends up 39th. All three drivers were forced out, notably rattling Wallace, who had led laps early in the event.
