M‑Sport has revealed a Rally2 kit car that will compete in the World Rally Championship’s top class next year.
New Kit and Technical Framework
The kit will add homologated front fenders, a front bumper and a rear aerodynamic device to the existing Ford Fiesta Rally2, and slashes the minimum weight by 10 kg. A 33 mm turbo restrictor is also slated to give the cars parity with the all‑new WRC27 vehicles built under a separate regulation set. According to the FIA, the kit’s cost stands at €7,500, and it aims to level aerodynamic performance across categories.
Testing on Spanish Asphalt
During a week‑long grid‑practice at a Spanish gravel track, the upgraded Fiesta turned an imposing all‑white silhouette, with conspicuous changes at the front bumper and rear wing. Matthew Wilson, former WRC driver, piloted the car on Tuesday, completing a series of timed runs that were later shared online. The images and video footage underline the visual and performance advances the team is showcasing.
Strategic Partnership with Ford and Calendar Commitment
M‑Sport announced a fresh factory partnership with Ford that will take effect in 2028, but sponsorship support is already swelling ahead of the 2027 season. The team will field three kit cars across the championship’s recently expanded 15‑round calendar, targeting key events to validate the platform and gather developmental data.
Driver Selection Philosophy
Team principal Richard Millener clarified that no driver decisions have been finalized yet. “The focus remains on talent capable of developing the car while securing backing,” he said. He added that the goal is a 2029 class‑winning ecosystem, with a multi‑year vision that aligns with Ford Europe’s aspirations. “We’ll grow junior talent but need a clear, pragmatic approach to winning,” Millener elaborated.
Future Outlook
The introduction of the Rally2 kit car marks the first deliberate step toward homogenising class performance and securing Ford’s long‑term position within WRC, while M‑Sport positions itself to oscillate between proven talent and emerging prospects. The next two seasons will test whether the engineering coursework and partnership dynamics can translate into podiumthrown drives.
