Jorge Martin snapped back the MotoGP championship lead after a third‑place finish at the Mandalika Grand Prix, making 2024 his most successful title run yet.
Martin gains a crucial swing
Martin’s podium in Indonesia pushed him to the front of the leaderboard, overtaking Marc Marquez for the top spot. The Spaniard’s RS‑GP bike carried him leg‑by‑leg past his Aprilia teammates, who dominated the race.
Inconsistent form become a pattern
Across the season Martin’s results have oscillated sharply. After a win and a runner‑up in Silverstone, he saw his pace dip at Aragon and suffered arm pump in San Marino, landing further behind the leaders.
The sprint setback
During the Mandalika sprint, Bezzecchi and Fernandez were wrecked in the opening lap. Martin won the sprint’s favour but a tyre‑pressure issue and a late mistake cost him victory and a solid points haul.
Improvement over the season
Martin noted the RS‑GP was not fully familiar, especially on fast corners, where he spun heavily in attempts to extract time. He said he improved throughout the weekend, matching the speed of teammates as the event progressed, yet remained almost seven seconds off the lead.
Strategic outlook
He stresses that consistency, speed and intelligence will dictate the rest of the season. “There’s a bit missing in every race, and I hope that becomes negligible,” Martin said, leaving five rounds to determine the champion.
With four races still on the calendar, Martin’s calm confidence suggests he will keep tightening his campaign and maintain pressure on Ducati rivals.
