Every year Sony also hosts an internal event, Destination PlayStation, in which only dealers with whom Sony works cooperate. They can take a look at the products that are still to come and start their annual planning.
As you can currently hear, the event is not being organized by Sony this year, but by an external sales partner. Why and why is not known, but it is believed that Sony is instead preparing for the PS5 Reveal Event, which is also expected in February. The proximity in time would be a possible explanation.
Okie. Here's what I'm hearing from multiple sources. (Just needed to confirm something before sharing.) Sony is not hosting Destination PlayStation, its annual closed event bringing together publishers and retailers. The event will still happen, but hosted by a retailer.

In general, a lot is still unclear about Sony's marketing strategy for the PS5. So far, it has only been confirmed that you want to host numerous own events and avoid big shows like the E3. Since the strategy and schedule for the PS4 worked out pretty well at the time, it is believed that Sony will do the same this time.
