PS5 remote: a patent suggests that you will have a microphone for voice commands

So far, official information only confirms haptic functions and adaptive triggers.

Sony recently announced that it would not go to the E3 2020, so the information about the new PlayStation 5 will be revealed when the company deems it convenient. One of the best kept secrets is the command of the console (the name DualShock 5 is not official), of which we hardly know anything. Both adaptive triggers and their haptic functions are confirmed, but according to a patent published by Sony, they have worked on a prototype that will implement a microphone for voice commands.

As you remember in Kotaku, that a patent indicates certain functionalities does not mean that the idea will be brought to reality, so that this type of information must be taken with caution. "When the user issues a voice command on the microphone, the speaker sound is muted," the document explains. In addition, according to the patent, the command has tactile features.

PlayStation 4 already had a voice assistant system, but in the case of the current console, it was not integrated in the DualShock 4. Thus, the user had to use a headset with a microphone to activate the assistant. By introducing it to the remote itself, Sony would make the device feel more organic.

The potential of your haptic functions

Speaking to Gaming Bolt, Ivan Moen, CEO of RockPocket Game (creators of Moons of Madness), highlighted the potential of haptic functions, which will allow, for example, to differentiate the path of an arc with respect to the action of shooting A gun, all through touch. Despite recognizing that on paper there are many interesting possibilities, the manager has also pointed out that it will depend on how the developers implement it.

PlayStation 5, like Xbox Series X, is scheduled for the end of 2020. Godfall, one of the first video games announced for PS5, has been seen thanks to a leaked video of only 6 seconds.
