Resident Evil 2 Remake: Capcom discarded his remake several times before accepting it

The Osaka company recognizes that they had doubts before accepting the realization of this successful remake, one of their recent major commercial successes.

Capcom had doubts before beginning the development of Resident Evil 2 Remake. The title, one of the biggest successes of criticism and sales of the Japanese company of the last five years, now celebrates its first anniversary with jubilation, since from the Osaka offices that same study now hopes to repeat that success with Resident Evil 3 Remake. Its key members have told the story behind the acceptance of this project.

"The thing never took off"

Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, producer of the title, explained on PlayStation Blog that “We have talked a lot about this since the game was announced, but there have always been many fans asking us to remake Resident Evil 2,” he begins acknowledging. After the work done with the remake of the first part in the generation of 128 bit, there was a large number of fans asking that the story of Leon and Claira could be enjoyed adapted to the current times.

"We consider it several times over the years, but making a great remake of this classic was a whole company and the thing never took off," he continues, assuming the difficulties that this work had implied by the time difference between the original , directed by Hideki Kamiya back in 1998, and the Remake, more than twenty years later.

“In the end, the right time came, we talked again about remaking Resident Evil 2 and this time we got the approval to start the development. Some fans may remember that as soon as the decision was made, we published the announcement “We Do It” on social networks, in August 2015, because we were excited to confirm that the game was in development. For the team, which was still small at the time, it was the real start of hard work! ”

The study was later expanding the resources needed to carry out the Remake, which tried to get the most out of the RE Engine, also used in the purposes of the third part.

However, Resident Evil 2 Remake is part of the best games of the year in the Metacritic aggregator portal and has exceeded sales of the original title, as Capcom itself confirmed in December, with about 5 million units sold.
