PS5: Sony files official trademark protection in Europe

Another step on the way to the PS5 reveal and launch has been taken after Sony filed and received trademark protection for the PS5 here in Europe yesterday.

The patent was granted to Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. 1-7-1 Konan, Minato-ku Tokyo JP-Japan and describes, among other things, the use of:

“Interactive computer software; interactive entertainment software; interactive multimedia game software; interactive computer software for information exchange; downloadable interactive entertainment software for playing video games; Computer game software; Game development software; Software for virtual reality games; Augmented reality game software; downloadable game-related software applications; Software programs for video games; Computer software, namely, game engine software for developing and operating video games; Computer game software for use on mobile phones and cell phones; Electronic game software for mobile phones; downloadable software applications for mobile phones; optical disks (data processing); Computer software; Computer hardware; Magnetic disks; Video streaming devices; Data communications hardware; Devices for streaming media content over local wireless networks; interactive data transmission devices; wireless computer peripherals; Data storage devices and media; Game discs (discs recorded with computer game programs); Data carriers for computers with software recorded thereon; Storage devices; Data playback devices; Devices for displaying pictures; digital signal processing equipment; Multimedia devices "

such as

“Games equipment, video game equipment, apparatus for computer games; portable video game consoles; interactive video game chairs ”

and

“Interactive entertainment; Entertainment services; interactive entertainment services; Online entertainment services; online interactive entertainment; Video game entertainment services; Entertainment services, namely, providing online video games, not downloadable, playing online video games, playing online games. ”

This should pretty much cover all areas related to video games. What is still missing is the official launch of the console, which is still expected in February.
