My Hero: One’s Justice 2; we have played it

We play the demo of My Hero: One’s Justice 2, the title for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch by Byking and based on the mangrove My Hero Academia.

This year 2020 is loaded with multiple games based on series of manganime. For this reason, Bandai Namco recently invited us to an event in which we could try up to 4 titles that will come out in the coming months and among which is the game at hand: My Hero: One's Justice 2 and others like Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions. The game based on the manganime My Hero Academia will arrive next March 13 to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and then we present our first impressions after embodying All Might, Todoroki, Midoriya, Nejire Hado and more in order to play frantic fighting

A large squad of characters to choose from

Being a fighting game, one of the strengths of the title must be its squad of characters. In the demo of My Hero: One's Justice 2 we could see up to 34 playable characters (number that will increase as we progress in the game and unlock the rest), among which we can recognize many heroes and villains of the manganime (until season 4 of the anime ). Therefore, we were able to test fighters such as Overhaul (Kai Chisaki), Mirio Togata, Nejire Hado and Tamaki Amajiki, which are added to the rest of the heroes and villains that were already present in the first installment of the game: My Hero: One’s Justice.

The fighting style presented by the title is 1 vs 1 with assists of 2 other fighters in each team. That is, we can choose, for example, Midoriya first and have Tsuyu Asui and Kyôka Jirô as partners to face Katsuki Bakugô and two others. With this we managed to concentrate our attacks on a single enemy but not lose our concentration at any time in order to be able to use the assistance of the other characters that accompany us.

Special skills and wide and destructible scenarios

Understandably, each fighter has some particular attacks and abilities, related to his manganime characteristics. It is interesting to be able to take them and discover their movements being at the controls, while enjoying quite careful animations.

As for the controls, in the version of PS4 that we could try, they are quite simple but it may take a while to get used to the use of special attacks. We can execute attacks with square, jump with X, blockages with R1, special with O and triangle, sweeps with L1 and movements with the right stick. L2 and R2 are reserved for the assistance of teammates attacks, which we can use every time their corresponding bar is loaded. In the case of special movements, called “Plus Ultra”, they can be executed by combining R1 with square, round or triangle. If we manage to perform them successfully, we assure you that everyone who has enjoyed the anime will do the same by seeing reflected those characteristic attacks of each character on the screen.

The scenarios are varied and we can find known places such as the Esupa City Mall, the Shie Hassaikai Agency, the Urban Zone of the provisional license exam, the underground Labyrinth of the Shie Hassaikai, the Villains Alliance Meeting Point and the Agency of Sir Nighteye, among other locations that we will be unlocking.

The distinctive point that My Hero: One’s Justice 2 presents with respect to others is the fact that these battle scenarios are somewhat more open and that is why the battles are not so linear. In addition, they are destructible, so we can sow chaos and leave everything devastated in our path in case the battle we dispute is very intense.

Graphic and technical styles to match

The graphic style of the game seemed consistent with expectations. Due to being an adaptation of the anime to the video game, we did not expect realistic graphics or that they went outside the line of what was seen in the series. Therefore, the cell shading style presented by the title is pleasing to the eye and, as we have mentioned, the animations are up to par.

Something important in fighting games is that there are no excessive frame drops or technical problems, since they reduce the accuracy of battles. In this case, at least during our games, we did not experience problems of this type, so it remained stable at all times. Of course, it is worth mentioning that due to the destruction of scenarios and multiple effects on the screen, it was sometimes difficult for us to understand what was happening and not lose sight of our enemy.

Definitely…

My Hero: One’s Justice 2 arrives a year and a half after the first part (which landed on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on August 23, 2018). This delivery took notable ratings in Metacritic, among which we found positive comments praising how fun it is to play it and how satisfying it is for fans of the manganime and negative comments pointing out its lack of modes and mechanics.

In our sequel test we could not explore the menus of the game, so we do not know if Bandai Namco and Byking have been able to detect the weaknesses of the original in order to improve every detail of this second part. We will be able to discover it from next March 13, at which time the game will become available on consoles and PCs provided that any fan of fighting games and / or My Hero Academia can put themselves in the shoes of their favorite characters and enjoy a series of exciting clashes.
