A Riot Games executive, internally investigated for his comments on George Floyd

The manager has said that the media has turned the murdered person into a kind of martyr.

There is no peace of mind for Riot Games, a company accused of toxic behaviors and harassment, which for some time has tried by all means to change its company culture. The creators of League of Legends have been peppered with controversy again. And it is that Ron Johnson, one of the executives of the company, shared on Facebook his opinion on the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the American police. Johnson linked the murderer’s fate to “his criminal lifestyle.”

Meanwhile, Riot Games has taken action on the matter and has relieved him of his position while investigating what happened. “It is an opportunity to teach people (and children) that this type of criminal life never ends well, neither for you nor for those around you,” Johnson published on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network. He also specified that the media and the left have made George Floyd “a martyr.”

The company’s statement

Riot Games, which is one of the companies that positioned itself against racism and in favor of the Black Lives Matter movement, has published a statement about it. “We are aware of the post on social networks and we have opened an investigation,” they begin. “We will firmly say that what is said in that image is horrendous and that it goes against our values.” According to the company, it does not represent what they think, which is that in the United States there is “systemic racism” that needs to be reversed. “Although we did not disclose the details of the investigation,” they will continue “a disciplinary process” and Ron Johnson’s position will remain in the air until they reach a conclusion.

Riot Games has just released Valorant, its competitive online shooter. The company, which will continue to expand its licenses beyond League of Legends, TFT and Legends of Runeterra, has more unpublished intellectual properties underway.
