FIA stewards overturned Pierre Gasly’s two five‑second penalties, restoring him to third at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Penalty reversal
The decision followed a Right of Review request from Alpine, who proved that Gasly had not breached the 60 km/h pit‑lane speed limit. Both penalties were rescinded, and the driver’s original finishing position was reinstated.
Timing system error
Evidence from Formula One Management revealed that the distance calculation in the first pit‑lane timing zone was inaccurate for the revised Monaco layout. This miscalculation led to an incorrect average‑speed assessment, prompting the stewards to vacate the infringements.
Points and future outlook
By returning to third place, Gasly gains nine additional points in the drivers’ standings and likewise adds nine points to the Alpine Constructors’ tally. Alpine thanked the FIA and Formula One Management for their transparency and expressed focus on the upcoming Barcelona‑Catalunya Grand Prix.
