The Spanish GT driver for the Bentley brand, Andy Soucek, recounts his first encounters with the simulation at home. Assetto Corsa was chosen.
In times of confinement, the sports industry has to reinvent itself to keep the show going. Although football has already done the same around FIFA 20, other disciplines are those that see at home a way to continue squeezing what they know how to do. This is the case in the motor world, where simulators have become a vital part of keeping fit.
"I notice everything on the track at the wheel," is how Andy Soucek, Spanish GT driver for Bentley, describes his early days behind the wheel of a simulator. Specifically, from Assetto Corsa. It was last April 4 when he participated in Playtime of the Cope chain, where he narrated what it has been like to discover simracing.
“Now we cannot use either the car or the circuit. Seeing how long we were going to be confined, I bought a simulator, and I have entered a world unknown to date. ” He confesses that he had never been seen in a commercial simulator for hours, but what attracted him was the fidelity of games like that of Kunos Simulazioni. "It transfers reality to the simulator, which has laser scanning for the circuits and imports real data."
He clarifies that everything is the same, except for the risk: "The qualifying nerves are like reality because you compete with a lot of guys who do it well." It has a team of 8 people who are in charge of betting on the vehicle through configuration, as if they were track engineers. "Except that the car doesn't move and you don't notice acceleration and deceleration, everything is the same," he explains. One of the questions that more emphasis makes is the transfer of the sensations of the circuits at the wheel. Thanks to Force Feedback and circuit scanning treatment, you notice every bump, every piano, with exactly the same rough edges as in real life. "This is a world in which more and more brands are joining," he concludes.
The latest installment of the brand, under the nickname Competizione, will also arrive on PS4 and Xbox One on June 23. All those who want to enjoy it from now can do it on PC.
