According to SuperData, the new Nintendo production has beaten the brand that until now maintained Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
March 2020 will be remembered as the time when governments around the world began to take serious action against the coronavirus crisis. In the case of Spain, the Executive ordered the almost total confinement of citizens, something that contrasts with the happy and free life lived by the characters of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And happily, the sales triumph of the Nintendo title, which has become the best-selling digital game in history in its first month, according to figures managed by the consulting firm SuperData.
With around 5 million digital units sold during the month of March alone, Animal Crossing: New Horizons surpasses Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which hitherto held the record. It is not the only video game that has surpassed its marks. In the case of Doom Eternal (number 4 on console and 5 on PC), 3 million copies sold in digital format have been registered, while Doom 2016 remained at 957,000 units during the month of launch.
Call of Duty: Warzone, meanwhile, has reached 62.7 million users, representing an increase of 159% over the previous month, as we have published in FreeGameTips. This number encompasses both those who purchased the full game (i.e. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare) and those who have downloaded the free-to-play version separately. On the other hand, Half-Life: Alyx sold 869,000 copies in March, although those that received it free with the purchase of Valve Index, the company's virtual reality glasses, are included.

Digital shopping revenue has increased
The sale of digital games has also increased, to the point that as many digital games have never been sold as in March 2020. Revenues amount to 10 billion dollars, while in March 2019, 9 billion dollars were reaped. In terms of console revenue, it has grown 64% over the previous month (from $ 883 million to $ 1.5 billion); the PC sees its figure increase by 56% (from $ 363 million to $ 567 million). Lastly, year-on-year growth in the mobile market has been 15%.
