We have already played all the news from Season 7 of Apex Legends. This is Horizon at the controls and its new map, Olympus. Changes and improvements.
Apex Legends has known how to adapt to the times. Beyond the long-awaited inclusion of cross-play between all platforms, Respawn Entertainment is preparing a final stretch of the year that touches on the elements most anticipated by its followers. To the new legend will be added a new map, the first vehicle in the game, new functions and the union of another additional system to the battle royale family.
In FreeGameTips we have already sat down in front of the news of Season 7. But before getting into the matter, several of those responsible for the project told us about what we can expect from this November 4. It is an exciting time for the title, since it will practically coincide with the appearance of the new consoles. We know its status and what is to come in the coming months.
Apex Legends, beyond PS5 and Xbox Series X | S
From the study they intend to expand the reach of Apex Legends to the largest number of possible platforms. We recently learned of the delay of the Nintendo Switch version to sometime in 2021. Game director Chad Grenier explained to those present that they need more time to adapt the game to the console. “We have had some delays and we want to make sure it is a version that we are proud of.”
Your next stop is at the Steam station. As part of Electronic Arts’ strategy on PC, its most successful F2P of the moment will make the leap to the Valve platform. It does this by not leaving any user who has already played Origin behind. For the first time we will see that the game offers cross save between two different systems, even if they belong to the same ecosystem. And what can we expect from this feature on the console? Grenier assures that this first step will serve to strengthen the system; they want to bring it to the rest of the platforms in the future, but first they want to make sure they achieve a system that is viable, works and has guarantees.
The director does not shy away from the relevance of what will happen as of November 10 and 19. Apex Legends will be available on Xbox Series X | S and PS5 through the Next Generation Backward Compatibility service. Your progress on Xbox One and PS4 will remain intact, so you don’t have to worry when you make the jump. Running on superior hardware, both loading times and some visuals will be better on them. About a native version and that really takes advantage of its possibilities, they will speak “later”.
This is Horizon: abilities, definitive and functions
Horizon is the face chosen to join the roster of legends. In recent days he had not missed the presentation of his background. We are talking about an agent betrayed for reasons that we do not know, who travels in time 87 years later, which for her has been just 1 year of life. When you return, the life you knew no longer exists. Now you just have to unravel the mysteries of Olympus, the new map, and survive in this fight between champions.
The legend is described by those responsible as a “fun and balanced” character. His ever-present spacesuit makes it possible to elucidate on which elements his abilities will orbit. Being able to play with gravity is part of his hallmark, and thus he moves to the controls within the battlefield.
His tactical ability is a gravity lift. When the button is pressed, Horizon will drop a beacon on the ground that creates a vertical effect, as if it were Octane’s jumping platform, only without that boost. Inside the elevator we will begin to levitate upwards progressively, that is, we will pick up speed until we reach the end point, which allows you to be thrown in any direction. In this sense it is really useful when it comes to surprising the enemy while surrounded by tall buildings. Thinking of maps like World’s Edge, the skyscraper or industrial area is perfect to use this mechanic to your advantage.
On the other hand, the passive carries the characteristics of an expert in spacesuits. Air control of movement will increase and impact when falling from long distances will be reduced. Being able to have greater freedom when being away from a surface does not happen only with your tactical ability, but in any situation in which we are not with our feet on the ground.
His ultimate generates a black hole that pulls in nearby enemies and traps them. Before launching it, you can equip the device to launch it at a medium distance. Once placed in position, the hole will appear instantly. Its lifespan is quite prudent, above 8 seconds in duration, which opens a window to create synergies with other characters, such as Gibraltar or Bangalore.
When you control it, you can take advantage of its abilities when you attack enemies with little mobility. On the other hand, against Pathfinder or Octane he suffers, since with his abilities he can flee from the hole at any time. Controlling it feels exactly how the studio would put it on the table, it’s fun and it’s not out of balance. He is at that intermediate point to offer one more point of coordination between the members of the squad.
Olympus, your new playground
Apex Legends will close the year with the addition of a third map to the rotation. The Canyon of the Kings and World’s Edge will see the arrival of Olympus, a city floating in the clouds. They tell us that its size is greater than that of the barrel, although less than the second. That intermediate point allows you to propose a hybrid design, which in our perspective lies between the residential neighborhoods and the breadth of esplanades where you can be covered with the surface of the city itself.
When you see it for the first time, one thing is clear: it is very beautiful. It conveys that the studio has given free rein to its artistic creativity. The map is full of bright colors, in that clash between the modernity of the distant future that characterizes it and the elements of science fiction. An energy dome presides over the map from the north. Inside the aspect changes completely, the sky is blue and the continuous rays illuminate the scene. In the center of this area is a gravity ball, which after you approach it expels you through a tunnel. A moment worthy of a clip.
They started working on it for quite some time, and it was not until now that they decided to take the step of including it in the final version. Perhaps this decision comes from the hand of other of the relevant characteristics of this season. Olympus brings with it the first controllable vehicle: the Trident. Broadly speaking, it is a kind of levitating platform in which up to three people can move at the same time.
While the pilot sits at the top, the other two remaining holes are on either side. By riding as a passenger you will still have the possibility to use your weapon and perform other movements. Its arrival has not been thought of as something that changes the meta, quite the opposite: it is a method of rapid movement, neither more nor less. The methods to use it are already at your free choice. For example, Caustic’s toxic barrels can stick to the chassis, as can Rampart’s turret. As you can see, it has other uses that do not alter the natural balance of the action.
The diversity of structures is one of the strengths of Olympus. It may seem silly to walk into a structure and see the stairs leading to the other floors turn constantly, but such novelties create an ever-changing experience. Characters with Horizon mobility will be key to taking advantage of the height of several of its districts. Illusions his arrival as a shock to the monotony, at times, of World’s Edge.
Season 7: the clubs arrive and the R99 returns
Season 7 expands the social possibilities of the game. The community had constantly requested the arrival of a clan system, and as of November 4 it will become a reality. The Clubs land as a meeting point between friends, strangers and lovers of battle royale. They will appear with their own tab in the main menu and you can talk to their members from any moment of the game, even if they are not in your game.
You have to take into account certain limitations in the system. The clubs have a maximum capacity of 30 simultaneous people. Nothing else. It is not intended to extend the number nor was it a random decision. Respawn believes it is an ideal number to allow other users to open up socially while not compromising their infrastructure. Right now it is not feasible to create thousands of clubs with hundreds of members in them.
The creation of the logo will be limited to the available designs. At first they tried a slightly freer editor; As you can imagine, that led to inappropriate figures being created. There is also no possibility to create your own custom logo outside of the game. You can only participate in one club at a time, and that choice will be tied to all platforms – clubs are part of the cross-play system. You can search for a club through the pre-established labels or become part of a private one.
In this Season you will find other improvements dedicated to the Battle Pass. Daily and Weekly Challenges have been redesigned to appear in a more visible position in the main menu, as well as being tracked from within games. They will follow an order from more to less in terms of being close to completing them. We should also not forget that the R99 will return to the supply chests of the world, while the Prowler will remain only in the special supplies.
Season 7 – Ascension: November 4
It won’t be until November 4 when Season 7, Ascension, lands on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This first contact has surprised us by the playable possibilities that his new map, Olympus, will offer. Visually, it makes good use of the art style of the Apex universe, and the addition of the Trident brings variety to the games.
Horizon, the new legend, arrives to improve the synergy between the characters with zonal abilities. His ultimate ability is going to be candy for Bangalore and Gribraltar. In the preview session we did not feel that it was unbalanced, quite the contrary. It only remains to see how it works in the hands of the community.
