Audi rolled out a new Formula 1 power unit at the Barcelona Grand Prix, delivering a surprise upgrade to its engine package just weeks after the first ADUO review.

The Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities mechanism lets engine suppliers that fall behind the power curve introduce extra updates. The FIA conducted the initial review following the Canadian GP, publishing the findings to manufacturers in Monaco once every unit’s development level was confirmed.
Red Bull Watchdog Role
Red Bull Powertrains, recognised by the FIA as the benchmark for internal‑combustion engines, raised concerns that led the federation to scrutinise the ADUO process further. Despite the review, all results remained valid pending any further communication.
Audi’s Immediate Upgrade
In a swift move, the Audi cars were fitted with new internal‑combustion engines and turbochargers – a development largely unnoticed by the media. The enhancements stem from work underway in Ingolstadt and Hinwil, with the revised units ready and awaiting regulatory approval before arriving at the Barcelona paddock.
Strategic Implications for the Season
This initial upgrade is understood to be the first step in a broader programme, with Audi committing to continual refinements as the campaign unfolds.
