Gearbox will discontinue their somewhat unsuccessful MOBA shooter 'Battleborn' and shut down the servers, according to the developer today. This step is a logical consequence that one has actually expected for a long time.
As of today, the sale of the digital version is discontinued as the game is gradually being scaled back. Starting in February 2020, the first features will be eliminated, including the premium currency 'Platinum', which will be removed from Battleborn. From then on, you have about a year left to redeem remaining funds in the in-game store, because at the latest in January 2021 is over and the servers are finally shut down. This also means that Battleborn will be unplayable because the concept was designed for multiplayer.
The official Twitter channel writes:
(3/3) We're extremely proud of the work that is going into the game, and we want to extend our appreciation to all the fans for their support. Whenever appropriate, we'll continue to provide updates.

The latest update to the game was released in 2017 and already there had been suggested that the end of the game is within reach. This has mainly been made dependent on the user numbers, which have now reached such a low level that the further support is simply not worthwhile.
