Yesterday Tuesday 2K Games announced the development of a new BioShock game, which is being developed at the newly founded Studio Cloud Chamber. The plans have been around for several years, as we now learn.
According to this, there was already a start for a new BioShock game in 2015, which was put on ice again in 2016 for unknown reasons. In 2017 they made another reboot and a developer change, but the team at Cloud Chamber was completely rebuilt.
Assassin's Creed author on board
In addition, they have brought various industry veterans on board, including Hangar 13 (Mafia III), as well as Melissa MacCoubrey, the author of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Shawn Elliot is also lead game designer who previously worked at Irrational Games on BioShock, along with other developers who have also worked on the BioShock series.
The former serial creator Ken Levine, however, is not involved in the new project, which is said to be busy with something else and has no time for it.
BioShock is currently in an early pre-production phase, which probably precludes an early release. It is therefore assumed that it will take several more years before the title sees the light of day, then probably only on the next generation.
