Bioware justifies the absence of online modes in Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Officials from the Canadian company say that remastering the multiplayer modes was more difficult than restoring an old Porsche.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remastered trilogy of the Mass Effect of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation, will not include the different online multiplayer modes of the original installments, as detailed in its recent official presentation. Now, Bioware officials have explained why the different online functions have not been recovered, ensuring that it was too much work.

Worse than restoring an old Porsche

This has been explained by both Kevin Meek, character director, and Mac Walters, director of the game, in a recent interview collected by the GameInformer medium, assuring that it would be worse than restoring an old Porsche: “One thing is a 1982 Porsche that needs be completely restored, but now I want you to imagine that it was actually buried in concrete. So you have to dig all of that out, and every time you go to test something, you ask yourself ‘is it going to work?’, ‘Am I done with the motor rotation?’ You know, it’s a lot of work ”, they explain from Bioware, ensuring that people underestimate what it means to make this game.

“I firmly believe that we have chosen the things that most of our fans are passionate about. On the subject of multiplayer, it was really difficult. Getting all the online systems working would have been too much work. So questions came up like ‘do we support after launch?’, ‘What about people who still play multiplayer today?’, Do we try to find a way to enable cross-play between PS3 and PS4? ‘ ”, Conclude from Bioware.

And it is that this type of remasters focused on the single player mode that include some type of online functionality in their original installments, they tend to discard these online functions because they involve too much extra work on issues such as dedicated servers, online infrastructure and more. Remember that the Pinnacle Station DLC is not included after the loss of the original source code.
