Blade Runner, one of the great "lost games", reappears in GOG

The Polish store offers the possibility of reviving the Westwood classic, a game that was difficult to make work with the original copy.

GOG has given great news to all lovers of retro, adventure and big games in general, announcing the digital sale of the "Blade Runner" of Westwood, a true classic of the graphic adventure that was considered " lost ", in addition to being a real headache for anyone who wanted to play it in a modern system, even if it had the original records.

  • We talk about his story in this "Lore Hunters" (Spoilers)

The title is considered one of the best executed licenses in the history of the video game, a work of passion for Ridley Scott's film that used brilliantly abundant original material from the film and elegantly bypassed such important limitations as not being able to use the original script. , or not having Harrison Ford. To make sense, he created an alternative story that ran parallel to Deckard's, putting the protagonist in the shoes of another Blade Runner: Ray McCoy, with his own case, although with common ties of both characters and locations, allowing us to deepen the exploration of that version of Los Angeles in 2019 (yes, the original 82 movie was in 2019, the reality is certainly more boring without flying cars).

Among its strengths was its great authenticity for the extensive use of the film's resources, a soundtrack that adequately followed in the footsteps of the original Vangelis, stunning pre-graphics for the time, a technology of "virtual actors" that gave credibility to the characters and a multifaceted story in which our decisions and actions drastically change the course of the story.

The title, very well valued in his day (and with a magnificent dubbing in Spanish) was one of those games repeatedly claimed to be recovered in modern systems, but it seemed that he was going to stay in limbo for a number of circumstances. A legal one, since the rights to the original film are complex and until a few years ago they were practically paralyzed until Warner Bros managed to reach an agreement that allowed the production of Blade Runner 2049 and other works related to this universe. The other reason was purely logistical, and something that sadly repeats itself with too much assiduity when addressing the conservation of many titles: the original source code of the game disappeared with the death of Westwood, which greatly complicated the restoration.

In addition, there is the circumstance that it is a particularly complicated game to operate correctly in modern computers because of its configuration and the technology used, so even with the original discs, it is not an easy task to play with it. GOG, which has not hesitated to announce this hype and saucer launch given its reputation, puts it up for sale with an initial discount of 10%, for € 8.19 and the option to play it in several languages, including the mentioned dubbing In Spanish, a great opportunity to discover one of the great graphic adventures of the genre.
