Borderlands Movie: Jack Black Will Be Claptrap

Lionsgate has already announced the addition of Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart to the cast of the film.

The film based on Borderlands, the hit video game from 2K Games and Gearbox, continues to take shape. If a few days ago the signing of Jamie Lee Curtis was confirmed, now it is the turn of Jack Black, who will join the rest of the previously confirmed actors. The comedian “will give life” (in quotes, yes) to Claptrop, a very sarcastic robot who is not too much for the work that his companions survive. This is how The Hollywood Reporter has published it.

It is not the first time that Black has worked with Cate Blanchett or with director Eli Roth, since they were together in The House with a clock on their walls. “I’m excited to meet Black, this time in the recording booth,” said the director. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is the perfect person to bring him to the big screen.”

Richard Linklater, screenwriter for the Borderlands film with Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl) has also coincided with the actor in Jumanji: The Next Level. On the other hand, Nathan Kahane, president of Lionsgate, added: “This is one of the most obvious casting decisions we have made. Everyone who has ever played the title knows that Jack is perfect for this role. We are delighted that he is incorporating his comfy energy and voice into the film.

Both Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, and Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take Two-Interactive, the company to which the 2K Games label belongs, are participating in the film as executive producers.

The return of Tales from the Borderlands

With the new Borderlands 3 DLC on the horizon, the saga will return to video games thanks to a title that had been discontinued due to the bankruptcy of Telltale Games. Tales from the Borderlands will return to digital stores on February 17. This title responds to the genre of narrative adventure and is set between the second and third main installments of the saga.

Borderlands 3, meanwhile, is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and Google Stadia.
