Audi F1 confirmed that Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto will stay on the team for several more seasons, securing a long‑term contract as he continues building his place in the new Audi‑Sauber project.
Long‑Term Commitment at Audi
Bortoleto said he has a contract covering the next few years, pointing to a “confidential” agreement that will keep him with the Swiss‑German outfit beyond 2025. “I’ll be with Audi next year, and not only next year, but for the following years as well,” he told Motorsport.com’s Brazilian edition, reinforcing the 2030 vision stated by team principal Mattia Binotto.
2024‑25 Season Performance Snapshot
After joining the squad in 2025 for its last Sauber season, Bortoleto secured 19 points. In 2026 he added 10 of Audi’s 12 points and is 14th in the championship, eight points behind Oliver Bearman of Haas. His results show rapid progress and a steep learning curve for the incoming team.
Highlight at the Belgian Grand Prix
The Canadian Opening Weekend was a bright spot. Qualifying ninth on misjudged expectations, Bortoleto launched from an eighth‑grid start—freed by Lando Norris’ penalty—to clinch four points. He held position against Arvid Lindblad’s late charge, helping Audi establish an early foothold in the new rivalry.
Outlook for Audi’s 2030 Ambitions
Bortoleto praised the project’s long‑term goals, noting that 2026 will add another building block to the new car and engine. The driver highlighted the team’s focus on 2030, describing the current season as “the first step” toward a fully competitive future.
Relationship with Nico Hulkenberg and Future Development
While Bortoleto’s seat is secured, he also spoke of hoping Nico Hulkenberg remains beside him. “I really enjoy working with Nico,” he said, noting the veteran’s experience and speed. The newcomer will also continue learning from a team that has supported his rapid integration after a brief stint in McLaren’s driver development program and a single testing session in 2024.
