Bravely Second producer apologizes: the game did not meet expectations

Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi reflect on the flaws in the title and how much was expected from the game, finally “just” notable.

Silicon Studio, responsible for the Bravely Default saga on Nintendo 3DS and Octopath Traveler on Nintendo Switch, have apologized for the quality of Bravely Second: End Layer, in their opinion, below the high expectations that lovers of the first placed on it part.

The arrival of Bravely Default 2 this year for Nintendo Switch has served for the Japanese magazine Famitsu to have dedicated its latest issue to this new production; which is a sequel to the original game and not Bravely Second, the Nintendo 3DS title that they have reflected on to take stock of what went wrong in their day.

Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi, producers of the new Nintendo Switch play, have worked together in the past on this series, an inevitable source of inspiration for the video game currently in development for the hybrid console. However Asano believes that there were parts of Bravely Second that did not meet expectations back in 2015.

"Before I explain more about the name of Bravely Default 2 in this interview, I'd like to apologize to the fans for Bravely Second," he begins by saying in that part of the meeting, translated by the Dual Shockers teammates. "The development team reflected deeply on Bravely Second's issues and considered it for all of our subsequent projects."

His next game was Octopath Traveler in 2017, one of the best rated on his resume and a best seller with over two million copies sold between Nintendo Switch and the PC version.

Apart from this reflection, Takahashi has explained the reason for the title of this new work, Brafely Default 2, which stands out from previous episodes and is committed to new characters, history and even presentation. The goal, therefore, is that all those who didn't play the original Bravely don't feel overwhelmed or have the feeling that they are stepping into a story already started. The illustration that heads the cover of the latest issue of Famitsu is designed by Naoki Ikushima, also in charge of character design. Akihiko Yoshida, from Bravely Default, is not returning for this sequel.

Bravely Default 2 will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.
