“It’s what it is,” Wallace told reporters. “I thought I’d give it back, but the data already showed I’d gained position, so the damage was done.”
He added that if teammate Ty Gibbs hadn’t pushed him at the line, the incident might not have triggered the penalty, noting “I’m pretty sure it would not have been a penalty.” Wallace admitted that the move “put everybody in a bad spot” and that he accepted the rule’s sanctity.
