Will Buxton praised former Formula 1 broadcast commentator Graeme Lowdon for building Cadillac’s racing team after his sudden exit as team principal.
Cadillac’s Leadership Change
During the summer, Cadillac unveiled that Lowdon would be replaced by ex‑Renault executive Marcin Budzkowski after only eleven races of its inaugural campaign.
Buxton’s comments aired on the Up To Speed podcast alongside David Coulthard and Naomi Schiff, noting Lowdon had been brought in “to be the team principal in the building phase” because of his Manor/Marussia experience.
Buxton’s Endorsement of Lowdon’s Role
Buxton affirmed that without Lowdon’s “experience…and the work he did to build that team up,” Cadillac would have missed the grid. He added that Lowdon, while acknowledging a narrow window of expertise, likely knew he was not a long‑term fit.
Timing and Corporate Stance
Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss confirmed the decision was unilateral, with Lowdon informed only on the morning the announcement was made. Buxton said the team needed “somebody now to take this on” and that early hires would shape the 2027‑28 outlook.
“The earlier you can get somebody in, the better it is for all involved,” Buxton added, stressing competitive imperatives over niceties.
