Commandos 2 HD Remaster eliminates Nazi symbology from the game

The editors argue that they have made that decision for "responsibility" and not to break the law of some countries.

Neither the swastikas nor the symbols of Imperial Japan. Kalypso Media, the German publisher that publishes Commandos 2 HD Remaster, has decided to get rid of any prohibited symbology. The original title of the Spanish Pyro Studios will be the same in their development, but the images that evoke Nazism or the powers of the axis will not be present, and not only in Germany. The company has published an official statement and has answered one of the players who has complained on Twitter.

In fact, a user asks directly if the new version is going to include blood and swastikas, now that the German legislation has been more open. “The law is still the same, only that the USK [the body that qualifies games in Germany] has relaxed its rules and now checks games with that kind of content before. And no, swastikas do not exist in Commandos 2 HD Remaster, like other prohibited symbols.

In response to the same user, Kalypso explained that in the end it is "an attitude" and "the moral responsibility" they have as a German editor to make that decision. "In our view, the game does not detract from the use of alternative symbols such as the Iron Cross."

In all territories

The removal of the symbols has not occurred exclusively in Germany. Not surprisingly, all versions will be identical, as the company has stressed. “There will only be a single version of Commandos 2 HD Remaster internationally, and it will not incorporate symbols, portraits, speeches or resources that may break the law of many countries. As a company, we are obliged to adhere to the law, but we want users to have the best experience with our games without possible delays or even prohibition in certain countries. ”

Therefore, they say, they have decided to make this decision so as not to be forced to separate the community or be unable to "provide the game" to other regions. The editor also defends that they have been transparent with the matter and that they have reported this peculiarity since before the launch.

Commandos 2 HD Remaster went on sale on January 24 on PC. The versions of PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will be marketed in the spring of this year, although the final date has not yet been announced.
